SurfKitchen chosen as finalist in N. American Wireless Innovation Contest
Winners to be Announced at CTIA Wireless 2007 Conference in Orlando, Florida
— 12 March 2007
New York - March 12, 2007 — SurfKitchen, the market leader in on-device portal (ODP) applications, today announced its mobile software solution has been chosen as a finalist in the Home and Entertainment Convergence category of the 4th Annual Wireless Innovation Contest (WIC). The awards are hosted by the Wireless Innovation Network of British Columbia (WINBC), and winners will be announced at CTIA Wireless 2007 on March 26, 2007.
The WIC Awards recognize companies that provide technologies or solutions that demonstrate innovation in driving wireless adoption in North America. SurfKitchen entered its proven mobile software solution in the home and entertainment category, which acknowledges companies that provide a multimedia converged solution to entertain or facilitate ease and add to quality of life in the home. SurfKitchen’s on-device portal (ODP) solution provides a logical and easy to use interface for the mobile phone that simplifies the discovery and download of information or entertainment content (i.e. gaming, music, TV streaming, photo-sharing, email, internet access, instant messaging, text messages, video clips).
The judging panel, which includes a diverse array of executives from the IT/Telco industry such as Sprint-Nextel, Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Multimedia, evaluated SurfKitchen’s solution based on its highly successful implementation with European mobile network operator, Orange, which has recorded a near doubling of data download ARPU since deploying Orange Downloads—a content download service that utilizes SurfKitchen’s ODP solution.
“Orange’s successful experience is typical for our customers as they see users consistently respond to a dramatically simpler and faster user interface, which translates into increased data services revenues, said Michel Quazza, CEO of SurfKitchen. “Being a finalist for the WIC award is exciting for SurfKitchen because it takes into consideration both our technical innovation and our customer’s success.”
SurfKitchen’s software resides on the mobile device and is sold to mobile network operators. It provides users with fast, simple access to content such as ringtones, games, news, streamed video and other premium content. The software features simple, logical menus and content previews, providing the user with an effective, easy-to-use alternative to the traditional browser-based approach of accessing mobile content. The simplicity of the user interface makes discovery, consumption and repeat-usage of mobile data services easy, and has proven to increase ARPU and reduce customer churn.
