SurfKitchen Unveils ‘Mobile Optimised’ Widget Framework
Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, 11 February 2008 – SurfKitchen, the market leader in On-Device Portal (ODP) applications, today released full details on SurfKit Widget Framework, a ‘mobile optimised’ widget framework that is part of the recently announced SurfKit Phonetop suite of on-device applications, which will be showcased at Mobile World Congress in hall 1, stand 1D64.
With subscribers demanding ‘zero-click’ access to an increasingly broad and personalised range of rich mobile data services, operators are seeking to mobilise popular Internet services such as Google, Facebook or YouTube. Supporting this change in mobile data consumption, SurfKit Widget Framework allows operators to easily create and launch a broad range of customisable widgets. By enabling operators to broaden the range of mobile services available within a controlled environment, SurfKitchen supports user demand for personalised content, while enabling operators to manage the overall quality of experience and branding.
“To unlock and realise the potential of mobile data services, operators need to offer users a compelling experience across a diverse and ever changing range of mobile data services,” said Michel Quazza, Chief Executive Officer, SurfKitchen. “The discoverability, user experience and personalisation offered by SurfKit Widget Framework will help operators drive the uptake of mobile content services and bring the mobile Internet to life.”
SurfKit Widget Framework enables operators to offer a broader choice of relevant data services to consumers by providing a service creation environment on the device using XML/Javascript. Services can be deployed on devices as widgets, vastly simplifying the creation of services that can be delivered across a broad range of devices. With SurfKitchen’s widget framework, new service launch has evolved from a ‘high risk fire-and-forget’ mode, to a ‘low risk launch, measure and refine’ approach, enabling continuous improvement of services to meet subscribers’ needs.
Offering a standardised delivery method with a rich client-server framework, SurfKit Widget Framework allows operators to rapidly and economically deploy new data services via Over-the-Air (OTA) updates tailored to specific devices or groups of subscribers. This delivery mechanism allows operators to retain centralised control over widgets, providing the option to enable or disable access to third party widgets, while giving users easy access to the widest range of content and services.
SurfKit Widget Framework is a key component of SurfKit Phonetop, an integrated suite of on-device applications designed for operators to significantly improve mobile data service delivery and consumption.
