SurfKitchen continues to set the standard for the on-device portal market

Technology Innovation and Customer Growth Mark Successful 2007

CTIA, SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (October 23, 2007) – SurfKitchen, the market leader in On-Device Portal (ODP) applications, marks another successful year at CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment 2007. SurfKitchen’s technical expertise, innovation and industry leadership continued to set the standard for the ODP market in 2007 and included successful customer deployments with tier one mobile operators such as Maxis, Orange Group and Telstra - underlining the continued evolution of ODPs from single applications to integrated content platforms. SurfKitchen’s commitment to driving subscriber use of content services for mobile operators across the world is today reinforced with the integration of BREW UIOnce native user interface into SurfKitchen’s portfolio of ODP solutions. The integration will provide operators with a significant competitive differentiator in markets where they support multiple user interfaces on their networks by enabling the delivery of data services across handsets enabled by BREW, Symbian, Java and Windows Mobile from a single provisioning infrastructure. “2007 has been a significant year for SurfKitchen and the broader ODP industry. Operators across the world are focused on the delivery of rich mobile data services and increasingly recognize the pivotal role that customizable and dynamic ODP solutions can play in increasing data service revenues,” said Michel Quazza, chief executive officer, SurfKitchen. Quazza continued; “Our projects with global operators like Maxis, Orange Group and Telstra have set the standard for the industry and shown that our ODPs can provide an integrated content platform to support some of the most innovative data content strategies in the world.” In 2007, SurfKitchen’s ODP solutions supported operators including Orange Group, Telefonica Moviles España, Telstra, Maxis, Etisalat and ALJAWAL (Saudi Telecom) as they deployed mobile TV and rich mobile content services ranging from traffic alerts to ringtones, pictures and games. Maxis Switches On Mobile TV In July, Maxis, Malaysia’s most innovative mobile network operator, launched an integrated mobile content services portal based on SurfKitchen’s market leading SurfKit Desktop product. The project includes the first deployment of SurfKitchen’s mobile TV application, offering 15 channels of news and entertainment. The portal, called ‘myMAXIS’, consolidates Maxis’ service portfolio within a single, intuitive interface, designed to provide seamless content discovery and access. The portal’s home screen helps publicize services, while providing a simple and accessible user interface for subscribers. The home page includes a news ticker, three advertisements highlighting new content and icons leading to seven services, including; mobile TV, news, music, games, traffic updates, account management and a page of ‘hot sites’ with direct links to popular WAP pages. This portfolio of services complements Maxis’ WAP offering by highlighting popular destinations and simplifying navigation. By channeling subscribers from a single home page through distinct content gateways, Maxis also has the opportunity to increase revenues by offering a platform for targeted advertising. Branding, content and advertisements are managed through over-the-air (OTA) updates, allowing Maxis to make regular and timely changes to the platform, keeping it relevant and fresh to sustain customer interest. The myMAXIS portal allows Maxis to realize its long-term objective of bringing all of its mobile content services together into a single application, enabling its customers to discover the wealth of services on offer by making content access simple and seamless. Orange Doubles Data ARPU Following the development of ‘Orange Downloads’ – a branded ODP application developed for Orange by SurfKitchen, Orange has seen a near doubling of download data ARPU from Signature devices featuring Orange Downloads. The application was developed as part of Orange’s Signature device strategy, which aims to offer customers a simple and seamless experience with ‘one click’ access to services. Orange Downloads was launched at the end of 2005 in the UK and France and offers customers easy access to the top mobile content (ringtones, pictures and games). Orange World, Orange’s mobile portal, revenues have increased by more than 30 percent as users are more comfortable accessing and downloading mobile content through the ‘Orange Downloads’ application. There was a similar rise in repeat usage, with more than 30 percent increase in the number of first time users returning to both Orange Downloads and Orange World to access the service and make further purchases. Using SurfKitchen’s ODP technology, Orange Downloads allows users to get fresh content from the Orange World portal from regular over the air updates. Users get an easily discoverable, engaging mobile application offering direct access to content and links to portal pages for further downloads. Telstra Next G™ Network Following SurfKitchen’s successful launch of the Telstra BigPond Menu in 2006, Telstra selected SurfKitchen to power the user experience behind its Next G™ network, the world’s geographically largest national High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSPDA) network. Telstra is using SurfKitchen’s technology to deliver downloads as part of its new ‘My Place’ mobile data portal, which offers ‘1-touch, 1-click’ access to a range of rich mobile data services. The continuing evolution of SurfKitchen’s close working relationship with Telstra is a direct result of the award-winning successes of BigPond Menu, launched in 2006 and Telstra Active Menu, launched in 2005. SurfKitchen’s robust SurfKit Download Manager™ was chosen to support one of nine key services and applications that make up ‘My Place’. This will enable Telstra to offer a better user experience in purchasing content, while encouraging greater uptake and increased Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). About SurfKitchen SurfKitchen is uniquely focused on delivering a mobile end-user experience superior to alternative browser based solutions. SurfKitchen’s simple logical menus ensure easy discovery, consumption and repeat usage of mobile data services. Simplifying the end user experience improves subscriber satisfaction, encourages adoption and promotes operator brand identity. SurfKitchen’s platform enables digital content to be sent over-the-air to a broad range of feature phones and smart phones across Symbian, Microsoft, Java and Brew platforms. This enables operators to ensure that the most up to date content is always available to subscribers. The SurfKitchen experience can be tailored according to operator market segmentation, encouraging increased customer loyalty and ultimately reducing churn. SurfKitchen’s solutions have been deployed by major operators throughout the world including: Orange Group, Telefonica Moviles España, Telstra, Maxis, Etisalat and ALJAWAL (Saudi Telecom). This list of high profile customers, combined with SurfKitchen’s unique expertise, has resulted in SurfKitchen becoming the market leader in On-Device Portal Applications delivering a dynamic user experience.
