Reading, UK – 13 July, 2010 - SurfKitchen today announced it has integrated Facebook and Twitter into the SurfKit Mobile Internet Platform. By seamlessly integrating two of the world’s most popular social networks into its mobile Internet platform, SurfKitchen is able to further support the promotion and rating of mobile applications and Internet services on mass market devices.

The SurfKit Mobile Internet Platform is used by major mobile operators including Orange Group, Telstra and T-Mobile USA to optimize the user experience for mobile Internet applications and services across an unrivalled range of devices. By delivering Facebook and Twitter integration through a new Social Network Connector, SurfKitchen helps operators and developers promote their application stores by encouraging consumers to discuss and rate the applications they are using on their social networks.

“Consumers are increasingly accessing social networks on their mobile devices,” said Michel Quazza, chief executive officer, SurfKitchen. “This trend is only going to continue with the rise of location-based networks and as they become an integral part of the mobile experience, it is important that they are seamlessly integrated into other mobile applications and Internet services. This integration not only benefits operators and developers by supporting promotion and feedback, but also ensures a compelling consumer experience.”

According to Forrester Research, 11 percent of US online adults now interact with social network sites from their mobile phones. In the UK, recent data from the GSM Association (GSMA) went someway to demonstrate the extent of this interaction when it found that UK people spent around 2.2 billion minutes accessing Facebook in December 2009. With the number of new Twitter users alone increasing by 300,000 a day, the integration of social networks with mobile application stores and Internet services is now becoming a critical component to mobile operator data strategies.

The integration of Facebook and Twitter with the SurfKit Mobile Internet Platform builds on its seamless integration with operator systems by extending its reach to social media platforms. This enables new mobile services to be developed by creating a mash-up between operator services and Internet services that can be deployed to the handset.

About SurfKitchen
SurfKitchen is uniquely focused on providing mobile operators and their partners with the ability to deliver the optimum mobile user experience for mobile Internet applications and services. Optimizing the mobile user experience allows mobile operators to build brand loyalty, reduce customer churn and drive the uptake of mobile Internet applications and services, resulting in increased mobile data ARPU.

SurfKitchen provides a Mobile Internet Platform that delivers a personalized, compelling and intuitive on device experience for subscribers to discover, acquire and use the broadest catalogue of mobile internet applications and services on the widest range of smart phones and feature phones including Symbian Series 60, Microsoft Mobile 5&6, Java J2ME MIDP2, BREW 3.1.5, RIM BlackBerry and Android platforms.

SurfKitchen's solutions have been deployed by major operators throughout the world including Orange Group, Telstra, Telefonica Moviles Espana, T-Mobile USA, Maxis, Cincinnati Bell Wireless and ALJAWAL (Saudi Telecom).
Personalised Mobile Experience Increases Frequency and Volume of Mobile Content and Data Service Usage on Feature Phones

Reading, UK – Dec 1st, 2009 – SurfKitchen announced that Telstra, Australia's leading telecommunications and information services company, has increased mobile content and data revenues by more than 11 percent on SurfKitchen powered TelstraOne Experience handsets. Launched in May 2009, the TelstraOne Experience is an innovative mobile user interface that leverages the SurfKit Mobile Internet Platform to give subscribers quick and easy personalised access to applications and services they regularly use on their mobile phone.

Analysis of results since launch revealed that customers using TelstraOne Experience were 60 percent more likely to use their phone on a weekly basis to access the mobile web when compared to Telstra’s regular 3G mobile customers. In reviewing how the new user interface impacted mobile data use by volume, Telstra found that mobile data use was almost 7 percent higher when comparing results on two identical handsets – one with TelstraOne Experience and one without.

“Our research indicates consumers are much more likely to head online when they can easily set-up and personalise links to their favorite sites,” said Ross Fielding, Executive Director, Telstra Product Management. “By leveraging SurfKitchen’s technology, TelstraOne brings icon-driven web access – which is usually associated with smartphones – to 3G feature phones."

Based on the success of the initial rollout, Telstra is launching the TelstraOne Experience on the Sony Ericsson Naite and Sony Ericsson T707, giving pre-paid customers the opportunity to experience TelstraOne for the first time.

"The results Telstra has achieved with TelstraOne Experience are a testament to our close collaboration with one of the world’s most innovative wireless carriers,” said Michel Quazza, Chief Executive Officer, SurfKitchen. “With TelstraOne, Telstra has clearly demonstrated that a great user experience does not necessarily require a high-end phone. This is an extremely important point as it highlights the potential for carriers to differentiate competitively priced mass-market phones that are sold every year."

SurfKitchen has been working with Telstra since 2004 and its technology has been installed on more than 60 different device models. Telstra initially selected SurfKitchen technology to support the launch of Telstra Downloads, an on-device retail solution for mobile content downloads. Based on the success of that deployment, Telstra extended its relationship with SurfKitchen in 2005 to launch its Next G mobile services and applications portal, Telstra MyPlace.

Supporting Resources
• TelstraOne Experience Demo
• Telstra Selects SurfKitchen to Power Innovative New Mobile User Interface

About Telstra
Telstra is Australia’s leading telecommunications and information services company with one of the best known brands in the country.
Leading Organizations from Across the Mobile Value Chain Aim to Simplify the Customer Experience for Mobile Data Services

Reading, UK – September 30th, 2009 – SurfKitchen, the leading mobile Internet platform provider, today announced it has joined the Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) forum. SurfKitchen joins mobile operators including AT&T, Orange, Deutsche Telekom AG and Vodafone and constituents from across the mobile value chain in a global initiative focused on simplifying the customer experience for mobile data services and improving mobile device security.

Established in 2004 by eight mobile operators, OMTP is an operator-sponsored forum that serves the needs of each and every link in the mobile phone value chain by gathering and driving mobile terminal requirements. Since its inception, OMTP has grown to include 32 members and sponsors that represent mobile operators, handset manufacturers, chip makers, content providers, and software and OS developers. In joining OMTP, SurfKitchen is furthering its commitment to provide a compelling and intuitive user experience for a wide variety of mobile Internet applications and services across the broadest range of feature and smart phones.

“The OMTP is about bringing together established industry experts from across the mobile value chain,” said Tim Raby, Managing Director of OMTP. “We are delighted to have SurfKitchen join OMTP as with its expertise in helping mobile operators across the world deliver a compelling user experience for Internet applications and services, it brings unique insight that will help our work around simplifying the customer experience for data services.”

OMTP currently has activities looking into a diverse range of areas including the mobile web (BONDI), green devices and accessories, device cameras, visual voicemail, network and battery optimization amongst others. In particular, the OMTP BONDI initiative is addressing the problem that an application written for one phone must be rewritten again and again if it is to work on all phones. BONDI solves this problem by providing a consistent set of web APIs which will work on across different platforms and phones. Widgets and web applications will hence be able to execute across a wide range of different devices from different manufacturers and on different mobile networks.

“Ensuring the consistent accessibility and security of Web applications across platforms and devices is an increasing concern for the industry,” said Michel Quazza, chief executive officer, SurfKitchen. “We are pleased to be contributing our expertise as a mobile Internet platform provider to OMTP and feel that the work it is doing with the BONDI initiative is particularly significant. We look forward to collaborating with leading companies from across the mobile value chain to help the industry deliver a richer and more productive mobile Internet experience for operators, consumers and developers alike.”

About OMTP OMTP is a forum funded by companies from across the mobile phone value chain, set up with the aim of gathering and driving mobile terminal requirements to ensure consistent and secure implementations, thereby reducing fragmentation and simplifying the customer experience of mobile data services across mobile terminals.

OMTP is backed by many of the largest mobile operators and has members from hardware and software vendors across the value chain. For more information, visit www.omtp.org.

SurfKitchen Powered Orange Downloads Selected as Finalist in “Search & Discovery” Category

Reading, UK – May 27, 2009 - SurfKitchen today announced that the Mobile Entertainment Forum has selected its latest deployment with Orange as a finalist in the “Search & Discovery” category for the 2009 Meffy Awards. The deployment, an upgrade to Orange Downloads, a branded, on-device storefront developed by SurfKitchen, included the introduction of a new mobile applications category that more than tripled sales of featured mobile applications within the first month of launch.

Now in their sixth year, the Meffys are recognized as the official benchmark for measuring success and rewarding innovation in the mobile entertainment industry. Entries for the “Search & Discovery” category were judged on their ability to make mobile content easy to find, purchase and popularize. The upgraded Orange Downloads was selected as one of five finalists with the judges recognizing how its exceptional user experience makes it easier and faster for subscribers to discover, select and use popular mobile Internet applications and information services within a single, intuitive and visually engaging interface.

“Orange Downloads has been a phenomenal success,” said Michel Quazza, chief executive officer, SurfKitchen. “Using our mobile Internet platform technology, Orange was able to seamlessly upgrade Orange Downloads by adding a new mobile applications category that significantly increased sales and we are delighted that the results are being recognized by the Mobile Entertainment Forum.”

Originally launched in 2005, Orange Downloads is designed to offer the optimum user experience for mobile services and is available to Orange Signature customers in France, Poland, Spain and the UK. Using SurfKitchen’s technology, Orange introduced the new mobile applications category via an over-the-air update to the Orange Downloads client used by Orange UK Signature device customers in November 2008. By allowing subscribers to simply access it through a routine update, the new applications category was easily discoverable and made an immediate impact on sales.

Rimma Perelmuter, Executive Director of MEF, said: “From the meteoric rise of apps-inspired vendors and content owners in driving consumer engagement to the remarkable growth achieved in emerging markets and the evolution of transparent, user-friendly business models, the 2009 entries provide a window to all the latest trends and innovations. More than ever, the Meffys reflect the increasing importance of mobile as a key engagement and entertainment channel for consumers.”

The 2009 Meffys received entries from more than 60 countries and were judged by 43 independent journalists and analysts. The winners will be announced on 23 June, 2009 at Floridita London, as part of the Mobile Entertainment Forum’s annual event, Mobile Entertainment Market (MeM).

TelstraOne Experience Leverages SurfKit Mobile Internet Platform to Enable Users to Discover, Launch and Customize Services on the Device Home Screen

Reading, UK – May 5th, 2009 – SurfKitchen today announced that Telstra, Australia's leading telecommunications and information services company, has deployed the SurfKit Mobile Internet Platform to support the launch of TelstraOne Experience. This innovative, new mobile user interface gives subscribers 1-click access to the applications and services they regularly use on their mobile phone. Telstra selected SurfKitchen’s mobile Internet platform technology to deliver integration to the idle screen on feature phones, allowing users to easily discover and launch mobile widgets, Internet applications, native applications and Web links.

“We know mobile users want a navigation experience that is intuitive and allows them to get to their favourite features quickly without having to hunt through endless submenus,” said Mr Ross Fielding, Executive Director, Telstra Product Management. “TelstraOne Experience delivers on our one-click vision, giving customers greater control over the services they want to use on their mobile phone. This means fast, easy access to the most popular applications and services like phonebook and calendar and social networking and search.”

Successful mobile application stores have proven that an intuitive user experience combined with compelling mobile services enables mobile operators to attract new customers and drive wireless data revenues. To extend this combination to mass market feature phones, Telstra selected SurfKitchen to deliver the TelstraOne Experience. Utilising SurfKit Home, SurfKitchen’s idle screen technology, Telstra is able to deliver a branded and highly intuitive user experience enabling customers to quickly and easily discover, launch and customise mobile services on the home screen of mass market devices.

“Revenue from mobile Internet services is now a critical element of operators’ growth strategies and has the potential to significantly expand if data service usage can be increased on mass market devices.” said Michel Quazza, chief executive officer, SurfKitchen. “Telstra has always been at the forefront of innovative wireless products and services and the launch of TelstraOne Experience sets another industry milestone. Combining a diverse range of mobile Internet services with the personalisation, discoverability and usability that mobile subscribers are increasingly demanding will help attract new users and drive mobile data revenues.”

TelstraOne Experience utilises the SurfKit Mobile Internet Platform to provide a highly personalised, seamless user experience. The experience is surfaced to the idle screen using SurfKit Home, and integrates SurfKit Launcher to provide a customisable launch pad for the range of services the mobile subscriber has selected. SurfKit Storefront streamlines the purchasing and installation of the mobile services, and SurfKit Widget Runtime provides a range of on-device widgets such as news and weather.

SurfKitchen has been working with Telstra since 2004 and its technology is installed on over 1.5 million devices covering almost 60 different device models.
