Telstra unveils smartphone app for easy access
TELSTRA has released a custom-designed mobile user interface that the telco claims will give customers one-click access to regularly used applications and services on their mobile phone.
Dubbed TelstraOne Experience, the fully customisable interface will initially be pre-loaded on the MOTOSURF A3100 and Sony Ericsson W705 handsets.
“TelstraOne Experience delivers on our one-click vision, giving customers greater control over the services they want to use on their mobile phone. This means fast, easy access to advanced mobile content and applications including Facebook, Mobile Foxtel from Telstra and Sensis search services,” Telstra Consumer executive director, Glenice Maclellan, said.
Telstra Product Management executive director Ross Fielding said TelstraOne Experience could be adapted to traditional form factor handsets or touch screens. It’s currently available on Windows Mobile and Sony Ericsson’s proprietary operating system but more are set to follow, Telstra said.
For Windows Mobile-based phones, the interface was developed by Victoria-based software developer Pointui. The Sony Ericsson-based interface was developed by Australian technology company SurfKitchen in conjunction with Sony Ericsson.
The user interface ties in with Microsoft’s Exchange email server and also grants access to some corporate email servers for a monthly fee.
The user interface also allows users to tether their handset to a PC for use as a USB data modem.
Customers will be able to take their menu configurations with them when upgrading to new TelstraOne handsets, Mr Fielding said.
