SurkKitchen’s widget gambit
SurfKitchen will launch SurfKit Phonetop, a next gen on-device portal concept that can support widgets
The solution integrates a suite of apps to make content discovery easier for consumers – while giving operators improved reporting and analysis tools. In doing so, it effectively makes the ODP an engine for running widgets of the user’s choosing. This means a user running a SurfKitchen-powered ODP could personalize it with widgets from, say, BBC, Facebook, Weather Channel and so on.
This feeds into the growing interest in widgets among the mobile trade. Widgets are making an impact on the desktop, but there’s a feeling that the concept would work well on mobile, where space on screen is limited, and it’s not easy to switch between appsSurfKit Phonetop comprises three components:
* SurfKit Home
This enables operators to give subscribers ‘zero-click’ access to content from home screen*SurfKit Widget Framework
Offers broader choice to users by providing a service creation environment on the device, suing XML/Javascript. This simplifies the creation of new service, which was previously expensive and high-risk.* * SurfKit Mediation
This is the name for the metrics component of SurfKit, allowing carriers to measure and subsequently refine their services.Michel Quazza, CEO of SurfKitchen, said: “The mobile internet is here to stay, but for operators to unlock the revenue opportunities its presents, they need the tools to manage and deliver and outstanding UE across a range of rich services. In SurfKit Phonetop… we can deliver an integrated platform that represents the next generation of ODP applications.”
SurfKitchen solutions have been deployed by Orange, Telstra, Telefonica Moviles, Maxis and others.
